Aion: Legions of War brings NCsoft’s franchise to mobile

While some of the team that built it is now looking for work elsewhere thanks to layoffs, Aion: Legions of War has released worldwide as the next step of NCsoft’s popular fantasy franchise. The mobile MMO has been in operation in Mexico since 2017 and gives players the opportunity to collect and wield heroes on an online battlefield.

So yeah, it’s not exactly the full-fledged MMORPG that its big brother Aion is, but rather Legions of War is more of a strategic online arena title with a hundred or so fixed heroes. There are guild labyrinths to conquer and what NCsoft labels as “infinite customization” for each of its characters.

You can download it on the App Store or Google Play right now or check out the announcement trailer after the break.

Toyed around a little bit and so far…well…it’s super pretty. Like, it looks really damn good on my phone (S8).

But beyond that it seems like a pretty soulless, paint by numbers gacha game. I’ll see how long I last in this one, even if it’s totally not scratching the Aion itch I had hoped it would.
