Anthem misses the mark again: No armor loot in Elysian Stronghold caches

The number of posts and threads about Anthem‘s loot issues are too numerous to count without a calculator. Now, we can add a misdirect to the mix of loot issues. Redditors believed that there were going to be armor sets in the Elysian Stronghold caches because of a statement by Producer Ben Irving during a livestream. However, after looting the caches, players determined that there are in fact no armor in those caches. This upheaval prompted Irving to apologize on Twitter:

According to the players on Reddit and Twitter, BioWare should be aware that the community wants more armor sets and should assume that the community expected that from the Elysian Stronghold. Community Lead Andrew Johnson replied to one of those Twitter responses with something the community definitely did not want to hear.

Although BioWare is rolling out new content this month, the mark was missed when it comes to providing the players what they are looking for. Perhaps there is still time to course-correct before the summer hits and players find other games to jump to.

Here is am idea: use the thousands of cash shop coins you get from dooing daily and weekly objectives to buy skins instead of making up dumb bullshit.

heres an idea.

Maybe design a gamer where cosmetic rewards arent based entirely upon reminding you the cash shop exists

Here is a better idea: actually play the game and realize that absolutely everything is earnable from in game activities & every suit has one set of cosmetics that is exclusively available for in game currency & can not be paid for with cash.

To the point that if you are dedicated to completing every daily / weekly / monthly objective, you will have probably run out of shit spend your coins on.

the point is as angry joe pointed out on a devs livestream before anthem released they went into the armour section and there was crap loads of armour in there. where the F is it all?? tons and tons of emotes vinyls etc etc. they held it back on purpose

Because that is the format they announced back before the gane was even in Alpha: weekly rotating selection of skins and emotes, directly cloned off of Fortnight’s cash shop.

Straight diwn to the exact same layout of two big “featured” options on the left, and 4 smaller “general” items on the right.

This isn’t rocket science.

Huh. It is incredible how disconnected I feel some times. Disconnected to reddit, I mean.

Listen, there are a lot of problems with Anthem, and whining about armors in these Elysian boxes is not even relevant right now.

How can I say that? Well, because it was never announced or billed that these new boxes would have armors. I really don’t care what the reddit netizens thought or wished or imagined because it simply has not been a part of the plan to date.

Good gravy, peeps. Can we stick to fixing the loot issues and the remaining bugs which are a plenty! Because some of this has to be done in serial and needs to be prioritized. And to be honest, I don’t care one iota what these boxes contain if the other issues aren’t addressed first. Freaking hell…

And guess what? I’m not the only one that feels that way. Another Anthem subreddit has emerged because of the disconnect. It is called “Low Sodium Anthem”. And you know what is being discussed there? The real issues without all of the stupidity. I’m sorry if it offends some of you but it is true. No one there is advocating dropping everything for some cosmetic bullshit.

So, I’m still playing. The combat, environments, flying and diving are just to damn good. But I won’t be for long if they don’t continue to improve the bug quashing and core mechanics.

Oh, and for those who mentioned the cash shop. They can drop the armors in there if they want. I have accrued almost 300k in credits because there are very few things that are offered that I want or like. So when that swanky armor comes out, I can afford a few sets without spending any real money. That’s why in-game currency for use in the cash shop is one thing they have gotten right. The more I play, the more I can buy.

I stand with Koshelkin.

I haven’t been playing, but I still support the game and the developers … I’m just waiting for the new content to drop so I have something new to do. It just got too frustraiting to keep seeing the same masterworks drop over and over, plus getting constantly stuck behind smoke walls in the Strongholds & having to drop from the mission.

I’ll have to check out the low sodium subredit.

It is so frustrating when we know the developers know what will make the community happy, and they keep dropping the ball whenever they have an opportunity to turn the loot and Javelin skin focused criticisms around. It is truly flabbergasting.

Anthem is very fun to play, and with this next patch, a number of QoL fixes should be in place. But, damn… Some of the biggest critiques continue.

Just a nitpick for the Article Author – The Elysian Chests are not in the game yet…..they are being patched in tomorrow. So players did not “loot them to determine that there was no armor.”

However, it WAS confirmed by the Devs(after we asked them a couple hundred times) that there will NOT be Cosmetic Armor in them.

Anthem is absolutely wrecking itself to The Division 2 at the moment.

There’s too many posts about Anthem’s loot to count because sites post about any time a player has bad RNG with loot for clicks. Punching bags are fun!

Or…it continues to be an issue that BW are still aware of and working on because they know they haven’t gotten it quite right either.

This is not Irving’s first rodeo so there’s no good excuse for a misinterpretation. If he really is that incompetent then whoever put him in that position has some ‘splainin to do. While I won’t rule out that possibility I find it a bit of a stretch.

My gut feeling is that he’s been given a narrative by management and his job is to sell it to the playerbase. Didn’t really work out for SW:TOR. A bit of honesty may turn Anthem’s fortunes around. Sadly that seems to be well beyond EA’s grasp.

Anthem’s problems are on BW, not EA.

While it didn’t use to be like this in the past, I do not see much of anything to distinguish between Bioware and EA at all now. (Anthem has a mildly interest but eminently discardable story)

I apologize for the confusion. Bioware no longer exists and hasn’t for several years. Much like Infogrames and the Atari brand, I refuse to call EA-Austin & EA-Edmonton by a branding they’ve dragged through the gutter.

Before I give the impression that I think that classic Bioware walked on water they had their own warts. Their storytelling was outstanding but their engineering was always lacking. At least with a single player game the story could carry them, that’s quite a bit more difficult in MMO’s where gameplay is much more important for retention.

Except those ARE BW studios. This isn’t “BioWare-Mythic” or “BioWare-Victory” branded studios, these were studios formed and staffed by BW leadership (Austin was by one of the Doctors who led development for SWTOR, Edmonton IIRC has been around for quite a long time).

The leadership at BW has changed over the years, but there’s no evidence to suggest they’re “EA plants” or anything.

He’s letting his EA hate cloud his judgment as to what is really going on here.

Same types of people will, with a straight face, say that because Apex is fun, then EA had nothing to do with it, to justify liking Apex while still hating EA.

fact is, Bioware is screwing the pooch with Anthem, which sucks, because the game is a lot of fun at its base level.

Reader

And Blizzard is Activision altho we had known Blizzard faces at it’s helm for years now.

C’mon dude. Take the hate-glasses off.
