Anthem has more loot changes planned, including significant changes in the next few months

Not Destiny.

Would you like to hear a joke? Here we go: Anthem loot. Yes, it’s basically something no one is happy with, but the bright side is that the designers are also not happy with it and are still making changes to the system. So those of you who are upset that the loot changes have failed to fix the problems, don’t worry, no one responsible for the design thinks that the problems have been fixed. Head of live service Chad Robertson stressed that significant changes are planned for the next few months, with smaller and more immediate changes coming sooner, although details were not included.

Community manager Jesse Anderson also stated on the game’s Reddit forum that the team is working to address things as quickly as possible, but there are some issues that aren’t easy to communicate; regardless, the team is focused on collecting feedback and communicating as quickly as possible. None of which will fix disappointing loot drops now, of course, but hopefully it will reassure people that the fixes are being devised.

And all the fools who pre-ordered this Turd will learn NO lesson & they will continue to pre-order all the Trash that EA continues to produce.

EA knows this & will continue to produce sub-par, mediocre trash while the same people who pre-ordered this & complained will stand in line to pre-order the next piece of garbage EA hypes up for them.

It’s like the Anthem leadership is living an alternate reality and all of the marketing/social networking folks are wearing blinders. The reality of how bad off the game is right now and their responses to the problems is just mind blowing.

I’m glad Division 2 is out to hold me over while Anthem get’s into shape. I loved my time in Anthem, it just needs more content and polish, I will most definitely be coming back in a few months, I’m now a huge Anthem fan for life.

Days old tweet… since then we’re heard absolutely nothing.
The game is likely to die which is terribly sad because it had so much potential.

Division 2 is looking good… and is a direct competitor.
All they had to do was listen to the community and revert the “fix”.

I stopped playing before the reddit post encouraged a mass logoff for a week, and so far I don’t see any reason to bother going back, as I’ll be playing TD2 and Anarchy Online 2019

Can’t wait to purchase yet another major release of EA with 80% discount. None of the EA games I’ve seen cost more than that since SWTOR.
(recently purchased their previous 14 months old abandonware – SW Battlefront 2)

Buying Anthem at discount would be a waste. Buy a better, more fleshed out game – with better support and better company goodwill instead.

Yea, pretty much. Any “discount” is too much unless you can play it for free ;-)

I got destiny 2 for free and deleted it without once booting it up – why bother even trying it? I got enough player reviews from people I trust to know spending an hour even trying it would be a waste of time. In the time wasted on D2 I might get an EX drop on Path of Exile. I might find a fun crew on Sea of Thieves. MOP might post another 12% company wide layoff that gets 3 hours worth of heated posts.

Opportunity cost. One of my favorite concepts of economics – my college major. Applies to everything.

$20 is a good deal on Anthem? That is the worst deal on the planet. Opportunity cost dictates you have dozens of better options to spend your time.

“in the next few months”

That right there, is why this game is pretty much dead to me

First, to you Anthem players. I’m home today which means a little Anthem in the morning. I ran around the Freeplay area in GM1 and in about 45 mins I racked up 3 Masterworks and 1 Legendary. Yup! That payout is better than any GM1 Stronghold.

My guess is that they are tweaking the loot drops even as we speak. But my point is, hang in there. This really could be a great game. It almost is now. They need to finish it. And I’m not saying that cynically. I’m serious. They delivered it unfinished and I hope that once the actual game they had originally planned is complete, it will be well worth the trials and tribulations. Yes, I’m talking story too.

Everyone, take notice. This is what EA thinks they can get away with by turning gaming into a service. Oh, Bioware is not blameless, but there is no doubt in my mind that Bioware would not have chosen to ship it as is. EA, IMO, thought they could realize revenue early and cheaply but delivering a bare-bones game that Bioware could then manage. It’s a new form of early access.

Hell, even EA stuck its foot in its mouth by tweeting yesterday that they were looking for Beta Testers for Anthem.

As for the loot? It is getting incrementally better it seems. But for me, it doesn’t matter that much. I have no issues grinding for loot and have gotten some very satisfying Legendaries. May not be enough for the pro looters on Reddit, but it is worth the fun for me.

It’s the other annoyances that piss me off because it is stuff that could have been easily fixed if devs were given more time.

I’m on board with Anthem though. There is enough there to make me continue. And I do believe the devs and community managers are working as hard as they can to give us the game they had planned originally.

Isn’t saying “hang in there” for a full price retail product weeks after release a little further away than “almost a great game”? A great game has people singing its praises, not forming support groups.

Don’t disagree. But there is no turning back now for those of us who bought the game. The other choice is to chalk it up as a lesson learned and walk away never to return.

Either way, my “hang in there” comment is for those who are playing Anthem now.

I didn’t make any masterworks from freeplay today, but yesterday I got 5 from doing 3 contracts. But the fact that I switched back to my Ranger for the challenge of it (lets be honest: Colossus is a bit too indestructible at times) set me back on my gear score.

I did however notice that Freeplay is raining 24/7 now and the NPCs in town are muttering about needing to leave before another cataclysm hits, so I am guessing that the seasonal events will start kicking in with the next patch.

I hope they manage to turn around the game. I had alot of fun with it, the core of it is supersolid, but the majority didn’t seem to like it much.

I think they can turn the corner. BUT, the question is will EA have the patience to let them?

Reader
Dug From The Earth

I dont think its about EA’s patience

I think its more about the players having the patience

I sure dont. Too many other good games I can go play, than for me to wait around and see if Bioware MIGHT improve things to where they should have been at the start.

I’m afraid EA will pull the plug and change directions in an instant despite being responsible for a big part of this.

I’ve already bought Anthem so that’s no longer a choice. And I know there are others who like me can see something there, now it’s a matter of pushing to see if it can be a game worth the effort.

SWTOR was in a much worse place after launch & EA stuck it out / backed them to do the F2P conversation & has funded pretty regular content updates and full scale expansions.

All the game needs is for some new dead horse for Reddit to beat for entertainment & the game will get much better / stabilize with a dedicated player base.

Maybe “majority”? I’m less sure. My gaming friends and other co-workers who play all love Anthem. Annoyed at the bugs, but still very much enjoying the experience. I hope it isn’t a case where the happy people are playing and the unhappy minority are the ones with the pitchforks and torches running from thread to thread…

The only game that almost got me to buy preorder in over 5 years is Fallout 76. Anthem was kinda close due to me missing jump pack heavy Firefall. Still sticking to my rule… let the game release for a year, pick it up on sale. It will be a better game then (usually).

Considering the opinion of the masses, it seems likely that your rule saved you from the disappointment many felt about Fallout 76.

Indeed it did! I came really close to getting it though due to me loving the Fallout series. So glad I kept to my rule. I’ll eventually play it.

I still like Anthem. I haven’t had the problems others have had with the loot but I do know it exists. My problem is lack of content and the broken content still there. How the “Quickplay” options for missions continues to make you wade through screen after screen of nothing, only to end up in a party where the objective is clearly frozen or busted is unreal.

I counted one yesterday: Queued up, got load screen. Spawned in a party with 3 people flying around looking for “the Spy”. I already knew this was broken so I quit party. Went to a “results” loading screen, and then when that ended, you get a loading screen back to the Forge or two other choices. Queued again, got loading screen. New party with new players, same “Spy” mission. Quit again. “Results” loading screen (this time I got XP, lol?) then when it ended, loading screen back out. So it was about 6-7 loading screens without ever firing one shot.

I finished the first reputation grind and was promptly rewarded with another reputation grind for… 50K XP for each faction. The first one was made harder because one of the Strongholds was bugged for me for two weeks but I didn’t know the ‘player fix’, so it meant grinding XP picking plants when I could have been in a dungeon grabbing 200 a run.

Tomorrow I start The Division 2, not because I hate Anthem but because The Division 1 had become one of my favorite games that replaced the bad MMOs out now.

I plan to continue playing Anthem but I won’t be buying a Season Pass because they haven’t inspired enough confidence in me to commit that far, so after tomorrow Anthem will pretty much be in suspended animation as far as I’m concerned until they have the new changes, even though the gameplay is very fun.
