Chronicles of Elyria kicks off land selection starting on April 29

This mailbox is mine.

At long last, Chronicles of Elyria is ready to start a good old-fashioned land rush. Sort of, at least. It won’t be in-game because it can’t be at this point (for obvious reasons), but the long-awaited domain selection process is kicking off on April 29th. That’s when all of the people who selected the higher tiers of backer packages for noble land-owners start the process of picking out where their lands will be on server maps.

The process will work from the top down, with kingdoms kicking off first on April 29th, followed by duchies, counties, and settlements. Those who want the feel of a more traditional open land rush will need to wait until May 27th, when the plots not claimed by others become open for claims by those who had not pledged for a certain shot at the higher-tier land portions. More details will be available as the open period draws closer, but for now, you can just mark your calendars for the end of the month when the game’s maps begin to take shape.

Nothing like selling an advantage in a PvP focus game. Hello my name is Archage have we met.

I am looking forward to CoE but damnit selling virtual land in a game that doesn’t exist yet is pretty much the same thing as selling virtual spaceships in a game that doesn’t exist yet.
Both imvho borderline reprehensible, but I’m all for free markets – as long as there are people willing to be separated from their $ on the flimsiest of reasons, go for it.

It’s even worse because the land plots are unique. This was the very first thing that made me go ‘Nope! I’ll pass’ on this game. Everything in game should be on an equal playing field. EVERYTHING.

It’s actually BETTER because the land plots are unique. Selling land plots is not like selling space ships in Star Citizen, it would be like selling planets in Star Citizen. The pre-buying shields us against a more chaotic distribution process *cough*ArcheAge*cough*, so it’s not without reason to do so..

In contrast: what reason is there to sell the ships years ahead in Star Citizen? None! Except greed from the developer. Every single player could just buy every single ship type AFTER launch instead, and it would make absolutely no difference.

Yup. Gotta sell/buy those advantages! For a game that’s years away and I doubt will ever be really playable at a large scale. Sounds a lot like Revival and that they share a lead designer is an amazing coincidence.

You and I have a vastly different opinion of what ‘better’ means.

No, still in pre-alpha, should see playable alpha sometime later this year, at least for certain backers

I do feel like it’s been so long since I backed that I’ve pretty much forgotten I did, despite their regular emails
