E3 2019: Anthem is going to let you assemble groups from guild rosters

Having trouble putting together a group of high-quality teammates in Anthem these days? That may change soon thanks to a new feature that’s being tested right now.

Players have noted that on the brand-new Anthem PTS there is an option to invite players to a team from guilds in addition to friends lists, recommended selections, and favorites. This will allow a guild leader to organize and curate a reliable and reputable selection of people for future expeditions.

This feature will roll out as part of Cataclysm, a season-long event with increased challenges and rewards for the daring that’s currently in testing. “[In this patch] you’ll have a chance to explore new areas, take on tough enemies, and face some of the deadliest weather events the world of Anthem can throw at you,” BioWare said.

Meanwhile, if you were looking to see Anthem showcased at EA Play this weekend, you came away disappointed. While Anthem was highlight of 2018’s event, it didn’t even have a spot in the lineup this year, though BioWare’s Ben Irving did give a brief, reflective interview during the show.

“Anthem does have a future. A very bright future, we hope,” he says. “We’ve learned a lot these last few months, we really want to make the game better, we believe Anthem can be a really amazing game. We know we have some work to do, we just want to work with the community and build it together and make it the game that everyone wants it to be.”

EA Play…. it was a pathetic showing for Anthem. Truly. I feel like the game has been abandoned at this point.

I understand the thinking behind not including it in the main presentation, but good gravy! A 3 to 5-minute interview outside the venue? This game was the headliner at E3 last year! Lol. Comical unless you are still playing the game as I am.

Anyway, I’m hanging on in Anthem. I haven’t had a chance to play much because of work but I’m still enjoying it when I can.

Cataclysm is a step in the right direction btw. But only a step. And now that EA is hiding Anthem in a back room like an unwanted mutation, I’m not hopeful.

PTS also has new ranged weapon types in menus added in Saturday patch (beam, electrical, something about discs / slugs). Probably just elemental damage variations of current weapons – without new visuals outside of colored light, just like melee “weapons” there.

Wait…so will the update bring guilds? If so, why haven’t they said much about that?

Because their EA Play presence was…lackluster. Granted they’d already blown their big Cataclysm announcement a few weeks prior, but I really didn’t see a point to them being there. Some tweets about getting feedback from influencers (gotta lean into that influencer marketing!) behind closed doors and some sorta cringey interviews and that was it. Massively overshadowed by literally everything else at the event : /

Well, they have mentioned guilds briefly as you may have seen, but that discussion is dwarfed by much bigger issues.

The fact that it is on the PTS build bodes well for it releasing with Cataclysm. But at this point, given everything that has happened including the abandonment of any set schedule for updates, until it is in released patch notes I would count on anything. That’s the roadmap now.
