Leaderboard: Will Blizzard announce Overwatch 2 at BlizzCon?

Among the many rumors being kicked around about BlizzCon is the rumor that the company is gearing up to announce a sequel to its popular team shooter Overwatch. (Cue my husband making sad faces at me, since he stopped playing Overwatch in favor of Paladins while we wait to see whether Blizzard can earn us back post-Blitzchung.)

A lot of the BlizzCon rumors we get in the lead-up to the event every year do turn out to be true, but I still feel somewhat skeptical about this one. Overwatch is only three years old and a bit of change, and it just hit the Switch (with far less pomp than the game itself deserved). True, I would be shocked if Blizzard isn’t working on some sort of sequel – we had pretty convincing sources claiming that Overwatch 2 is indeed in production as of this summer and indeed that it’ll have some sort of Left 4 Dead-style PvE component – but I don’t think it could be far enough along for an announcement. This is not a company that usually announces things early.

But hey, people are already hyping BlizzCon as a complete reversal of Blizzard’s fortunes from last year (which is why the Hong Kong mess is such a bad sign for the studio). So who knows – maybe the studio is going to do it anyway and get those hype trains rolling earlier. Investors seem to think so. Blizz could use some wins right now. Blizz could use a lot of wins.

What do you think – will Blizzard announce Overwatch 2 at BlizzCon?

I’ve stopped caring about what they release.and have traded or cancelled everything I once played by them.

I’m still debating whether or not to play call of duty. Probably not which is a shame because the cross platform play would be fun with my mates. Can’t have all the things , I guess.

Whatever Blizzard announces, will be looking good but they won’t they care about it after make some money out of it, and the game will fall into oblivion. Just as the recent past years have shown.

They’ll announce ANYTHING that takes them out of this PR nightmare.

So, i’m willing to bet, that this quarter for them will be a roller coaster.

Diablo 4, Diablo 2 Remastered, Next WoW expansion, and Overwatch 2 would definitely be a lineup of announcements.

Also I imagine they’ll announce WC3 Reforged’s release date as well.

If not Overwtach 2, it needs to be some sort of significant expansion or something like that.

OW’s big problem is that it just doesn’t generate much hype outside of new features every so often. New characters take ages to come out. OWL doesn’t do much for folks that aren’t already invested in the game.

I feel like the only way they’re really going to get more attention is if they make it F2P or start putting in different game modes beyond the arcade stuff. Otherwise they need a big expansion or a sequel of sorts. Assuming they want the game to keep growing, of course.

My prediction is it’s going to be Overwatch 2 teaser to announce they’re working on it maybe but I don’t think they’re ready to show it or anything quite yet.

They know they’ll win back a lot of people by dangling something shiny, so I expect they’re going to bust out every slightly shiny thing they have even partially ready.

Not dismissing people who are being critical of Blizzard’s behavior. It’s just that internet, and especially gamer, outrage is fickle. A lot of people just want something to be angry about and will move on to the next thing if Blizzard gives them the new toy they want.

I’m shocked the popcorn option isn’t the biggest vote-getter by a milestone.

Why does everyone hate popcorn? IT’S DELICIOUS, DAMNIT. And the perfect snack for a dumpster fire viewing.

I don’t hate popcorn. I hate that this feels less fun than usual.

Blizzard burnt my popcorn. All those fluffy kernels popped, then scorched into shriveled, blackened husks… All the butter and flavoring in the world couldn’t save this…

When you view a dumpster fire, beware the gas cans they threw out with it…

IronSalamander8 .

I voted popcorn. If it’s cheese corn, even better!

I hate how easily it gets stuck in my teeth but otherwise enjoy it. :c

Remember the talk about how Diablo 4 was originally planned to be announced last year but things changed last minute? Or, failing that, how Blizzard announced Starcraft Ghost whilst it was still clearly far too early in production? Yeah…

Even ignoring that, Blizzard is not THE Blizzard of the 90s and early 2000s. There wasn’t an option for it, but I’m willing to bet Blizzard has spent the last couple weeks as well as these weeks up to Blizzcon retooling everything in order to blitz Blizzcon and try to drown out everything with a deluge of cobbled together ‘announcements’ of projects they have in the works.

Warcraft Expansion #whatever, the chasing of yet more bad bad Horde traitor person into alternate existence and those bad, bad old god meanies too.
Diablo 4: Pleading Ignorance To Immortals
Overwatch 2: The Quest for More Recurrent Monetization
Warcraft 3 Reforgottened + Annoyance of Edgy Coldguy (paid maps likely edition)

They might even try and slip Diablo Immortals in somewhere too, hoping that the internet forgets their rightful anger towards their shoddy policies and go for anger at a shoddy mobile rip-off product (from the same studio that has brought you hundreds of other questionably sourced art assets in other titles).
And maybe a Battle Royale. Activision has Call of Duty for that, sure, but that doesn’t stop companies from producing multiple Battle Royales. And there is at least 3 IPs Blizzard owns that has shooty-men and environments that can be tossed into big bland maps and cities from said environments to be tossed in–as well as ways to cheaply argue a closing ring of death.
Starcraft? The SWAAAAAAARM! Or Carrier-spamming Protoss arses. Warcraft? Maaaaaaagic. And Overwatch? Talon Nanites, son.

Lol! At this point if I was Blizz, I’d announce it even if it isn’t true. Lol! They need something to refocus the conversation on their wares.

I dont see much reason for this. Unless it is something completely different, like story-based singleplayer shooter.
