Even if it feels like an edge case, sometimes dreams do come true, though perhaps lone developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone never expected this: Stardew Valley has officially sold over 10 million copies across the world.
Four years ago, Barone placed the game on Steam Greenlight to gauge interest. Since then, Stardew Valley has seen immense growth with a publisher in the form of Chucklefish Games (which Barone eventually took back from the company), a variety of updates (horse hats!), arrival to a number of platforms, and (more specific to us here at MOP), a multiplayer mode. The game will continue to push onward with help from a team, as evidenced in one of its more recent updates.
As you can expect, Barone is feeling pretty pleased about the milestone. “It’s strange & amazing to think back to when I was making this game in my bedroom w/ no clue if anyone would like it,” he wrote in a tweet. “To everyone who has played this game, supported it, and made all of this possible: Thank you!!”
