Lord of the Rings Online’s tardiest producer’s letter ever has finally arrived, six days into April, to give players a vision of what’s to come for the game in 2020.
While it doesn’t sound as though the Gundabad expansion is happening this year, players do have a lot to anticipate, starting with a spring Dwarvish-themed update, continuing through Aragorn and Arwen’s wedding in the summer, and a “mega” content drop in the fall that’ll feature the ability for all levels to partake in the front lines of a war.
Standing Stone Games also announced two new server types on deck for 2020. The first is a temporary “Challenge League” PvP server that will, for the first time ever, pit player characters against each other to earn glory and accomplish deeds. Later in the fall will come an Eye of Sauron legendary server that’ll beef up characters’ and enemies’ power at random intervals.
Finally, LOTRO is committing to some sort of legendary item revamp this year as well as the debut of Rohan housing. “It is important for us that the players feel that their progress on their legendary items carries forward into the new system, and we are discussing design changes with that in mind,” SSG said.
