The Daily Grind: What elements feel out of place in your MMO?

I’m generally a flexible person when it comes to encountering a variety of fictional worlds, but I do expect the creators to be internally consistent with the rules that they have made. In MMOs, this means that my mind breaks a little when devs suddenly toss in elements that don’t quite seem to belong in the world they originally made.

One example that comes to mind is The Burning Crusade’s Draenei. Listen, I love the Draenei, but suddenly seeing these space goats and their crystal tech and a giant freaking spaceship show up on Azeroth felt so bizarrely out of place back in 2007. World of Warcraft has gotten a lot stranger since then, to the point where I’ve abandoned expecting any sort of internal consistency.

That doesn’t mean I’ve given up hope for other MMOs, though. Have you ever encountered this? What elements — places, races, objects — just feel weird and out of place in your games?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
