The Daily Grind: What was the last ‘new’ thing you learned about an MMO you’ve played a long time?

So I’ve been playing SWG Legends about two years now, and yet I’m constantly learning things that are completely new to me. For example, a few weeks back I bumped into a wiki page for the server that explained that the cap for droids and pets is not, in fact, 20, as I’m pretty sure it was on the live servers back in the day. On Legends, you can actually pay in-game credits to increase the cap to 30. What?! Yep.

Now, I’m literally a Droid Engineer with a well-stocked droid vendor, and I still did not know this. I love it, both because it’s an effective gold sink and a way to cram another 300 storage into my datapad… I’m not a hoarder, I swear).

It got me thinking about how in some of the most complex MMORPGs, you never really stop learning – there’s always something you don’t know, and honestly, if that ever stopped being true, it’d be pretty boring, right? So tell me I’m not alone here. What was the last new thing you learned about an MMO you’ve played a long time?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

I’ve been playing SWTOR since it went f2p, whenever that was…2012 or 2013? All of my characters have been through the story line in Yavin4 and do dailies there at least twice a week. How did I not know when you have to collect the six relics that there are actually relics in the chests that you can see?! And there are different ones!! Well…I just don’t know how I missed that……

I had no idea you could raise a droid storage cap. :O I’ve just started a deco project on my yacht and it’s a pain to get back to ground if I forgot something needed for deco, so that will help immensely in carrying all my resources around! Thank you!

This morning I was doing lots of porting across several characters and I was forgetting which starport I was at because they all look the same inside. A guild mate told me to look at the mini-map and it says what planet you’re on. I swear, sometimes it’s the most simple things that I overlook.

Been playing XIV officially since 2013, and steady since 2015…and until recently when I wanted to switch between HUD layouts – one for healing and one for the other roles, where I move some party display elements into some more convenient locations – I’d pull up the HUD layout option, click the number for it, then hit ESC to close out the options…

I recently learned that at some point, possibly with the launch of the game, that they had implemented a chat command – /hudlayout followed by the number of the saved layout – that lets me do all of that with either a quick set of typing, or even easier, I can set each to a macro and just click a button that’s already on my screen.

That must have been a excerpt from the The Green River killer’s biography.

Sorry this was a reply to one of Schlag Sweetleaf’s meme’s, they keep disappearing for some reason; I made a Bug Report about this to Bree because I assume this must be a problem with the automatic mod tool they use since Schlag Sweetleaf is kind of a national treasure on this site.

I’m not sure if it’s a bug. I read something a while back about some individuals leaving the site… But Schlag’s comment history as a whole was deleted. If its just because of the jpegs attached, then posts I made where I threw one in would have been taken down but they’re still up (though I haven’t tried anything recently).

I’ve definitely seen several pop up, disappear and nobody comment on it… Thought I might be going crazy, and just didn’t say anything… But good to know I’m not the only nutter if it is due to insanity. And if not? I’ve seen him(or the account at least) post twice on an article (the Atlas sinking one), a first one and then a second after that one was deleted. Usually within an hour or so…

Like it’s a ghost. A ghost in the memechine.

Why Schlag though, what has he ever done to piss any one off? Do you think maybe some of the game companies filed a copyright complaint regarding the memes against the site like how some YouTubers get flagged? I really wish Bree would clarify because I’m pretty sure everybody loved Schlag Sweetleaf.

Since you want an answer, i’ll give you one:

He’s deleting them himself.

I recently learned in ESO that you can use your Champion Points while leveling a new character (less than a week ago); keep in mind I’ve been playing this game since Morrowind (let that one sink in).

In WoW and in Blackrock Foundry raid, it’s a long raid with final boss who can drop a huge mount, Ironhoof Destroyer goes perfectly with a pet from the same raid with the same model, my hunter have the pet but not the mount.

The raid takes more than 30 minutes to clear, just recently i found a shortcut quest for it hidden inside the raid, sneaky Blizzard put an NPC in a part where rarely anyone will look at, the quest require more than a month to finish and i did it, now i go to the final boss.
