Back in January, we covered the news that Cyberpunk 2077 aka Keanu Online was being delayed from its April release date to September. Now, it’s being delayed again, this time to November 19th, chiefly because it’s simply not ready.
“At the time we are writing these words, Cyberpunk 2077 is finished both content- and gameplay-wise. The quests, the cutscenes, the skills and items, all the adventures Night City has to offer – it’s all there. But with such an abundance of content and complex systems interweaving with each other, we need to properly go through everything, balance game mechanics, and fix a lot of bugs. A huge world means a huge number of things to iron out, and we will spend the additional time doing exactly that.”
CD Projekt Red does say players can expect previews of the game going up next week during Night City Wire (which was itself delayed to June 25th out of respect for Black Lives Matter protests).
As we noted earlier this year, the game’s multiplayer component – you know, that thing we care about here on MassivelyOP – had already been delayed to at least 2022. It’s not clear from this tweet whether that nebulous window will hold, but it’s so far off that it hardly matters anyway, right?
We also must point out that “when it’s ready” is reasonable, but at its press conference in January CD Projekt Red admitted it was essentially engaging in crunch time already to finish the game. We sure hope this doesn’t mean two more months of crunch now.
