We weren’t alone here in calling Amazon Game Studios’ original launch window of spring 2020 for New World “foolhardy” and “premature.” And we’re guessing we aren’t alone now when we express a complete lack of surprise that the studio is yanking the title from its August 25th release slot and shoving it all the way to spring of next year.
“We will be changing our launch date — and correspondingly, our final beta test — to spring 2021. We don’t make the decision lightly, and we have urgency about getting the game to you as quickly as possible at the best quality — with some additions that will make the experience even better,” Senior Director Rich Lawrence said.
Lawrence cited tester feedback and a need for more fleshed-out features as a reason for the delay, although it could just come down to the fact that the game isn’t finished yet. As a small token of compensation for the very lengthy delay, New World’s full experience (such as it is) will become available “for a limited time” on August 25th to anyone who has signed up for the beta or pre-ordered the game.
How many times in the past have we moaned about games being released when they are not ready? We should be applauding Amazon for doing the right thing here.
I am good with the delay. I love PvP and this needed a delay. No biggie.
Funny how Amazon having tons of money isn’t instantly fixing New Worlds problems.
Better late than faulty. A poor launch can be more harmful to a game than most other attributes. First impressions are so very important.
So? If it isn’t ready then that’s good, of would you prefer they fail?
As predicted. Not many beleived that launch date to be realistic.
Good thing they aren’t rushing the release (more than spring is probably also somewhat early).
Makes sense. When you change the entire focus of a game it has consequences. Add in Crucible’s reception and you have a gaming studio getting the message the universe is sending it:
Good actually Good News as everyone has been saying their wasn’t Enough PVE stuff to do or End Game play ..this is a good thing IMO. Actually give the game a chance to flesh out the radical change in focus from Full PvP to More Pve.
You don’t say? Well color me surprised! 😏
Gaming is Dead!!?
Long live gaming!!!
