If you thought that stuffing Tetris into the battle royale subgenre was wild, then you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Say hello to Super Bomberman R Online, a 64-player battle royale edition of the classic Bomberman game that’s confirmed as a Google Stadia exclusive coming on September 1st.
Super Bomberman R Online is, as its name implies, an online version of the same game that was released for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch but with a battle royale twist. Players are tasked with surviving against opponents on their own personal battle arena while gates to other battle arenas will open up for a limited time in what looks like a mechanic that’s similar to a zone of death closing in around a “regular” battle royale map. Players can even use Stadia’s crowd play feature to join in a match with their favorite streamer. And, of course, the incentive for going through all of this is adorable cosmetics for your little Bomberperson as well as cosmetics for bomb blasts.
Super Bomberman R Online will be available for free for Stadia Pro users, along with a “premium edition” that features all 14 characters and the ability to create private matches that can be claimed for free by Pro users until November 30th. After that point, the premium upgrade will cost $9.99.
