Bonus question: Do you prefer sleeping later or going to bed earlier?
Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Oh man, this is gonna be an exciting weekend. I’m gonna try to hit Pokemon Go hard because I really think Inkay/Malamar is a neat pokemon even if we ignore it’s unique upside-phone evolution requirement. I’ll probably do some Monster Hunter Stories 2 as I’ve finally gotten over the level 73 hump and the experience has been flowing in again, plus I’ve got a nice Soulseer Mizutsune to help me prep for one of the Elder’s Lair levels later on. Then I got board games on Sunday, woo! Catan, Unlocked, 7 Wonders, and others.
I’m not gonna lie, I prefer going to bed early, especially if I’m into a good MMO. Since most gamers seem to stay up all night, early and mid-morning seem best for avoiding competition or, in PvP games, finding a nice, sleepy powergamer to dry loot. You should have gone to bed when mommy told you so, Timmy!
Andy McAdams: Valheim has sunk its devious viking fangs into me (Vikings definitely have fangs) as we ramp up for the big update next week. I’m also playing Rimworld a lot because its like my go-to game. I might putz around in New World some more, but like Bree, I’m just ready for the real deal already.
Bonus: I don’t like to go to bed early, but I also don’t like to sleep late. I love sleeping, I’m just really bad at it, and if I sleep too much I feel like I’m wasting time. Which is all truth told, probably an issue and why I am perpetually tired.
Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): After this week, I kinda don’t feel like playing anything, but I probably will poke into Star Wars Galaxies Legends and maybe some New World beta, although honestly I’m not sure I need any more beta – I just want the real deal.
I have pretty bad insomnia if I don’t stick to a sleep schedule, but generally I prefer going to sleep close-ish to midnight. Life doesn’t always cooperate with what we prefer.
Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): I have this hungering to fire up Aliens: Fireteam Elite and unload on all sorts of xenomorphs, and in a bit of tonal whiplash I also want to further romp around in Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff. I also picked up this cute little single-player action/farming RPG called Kitaria Fables that I’ve been enjoying quite a bit, so that’s likely to happen as well.
I try to stay up late mostly because working two jobs doesn’t leave me with much leisure time in-between. Some nights I succeed, some nights I fail.
Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Honestly, mostly single-player stuff for me this weekend, just since I’m pretty much parked on Final Fantasy XIV at the moment and I’m not really planning on hopping on the New World train at the moment. Nothing against it, just already know where I’m going to focus my time in a couple months, after all.
My plan that successfully worked for years was to go to bed late and wake up early… but as I get older, increasingly I get more tired and wind up sleeping later instead of going to bed earlier. C’est la vie.
Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I’m working my way to Minas Morgul in Lord of the Rings Online with my Captain, and I have hopes that I’ll reach that expansion sometime next week. Apart from that, I started up a new Fallout 76 character and am greatly enjoying the exploration-looting-crafting loop there.
Sam Kash (@thesamkash): I’m still mucking about in Guild Wars 2. A mission a week really stretches out that content. I’m also having a decent time with the festival. I’ve been trying to decide if there’s anything else I want to really spend time playing but I haven’t committed yet.
Bonus: I would prefer to go to bed early but I just can’t do it. I’ll sleep in no matter what. I’m just a night owl through and through. I get the best work done after hours and can’t bring myself to go to sleep.
Tyler Edwards (blog): I’ll be continuing my increasingly epic Curse of Strahd D&D campaign, and I’ve been playing Road 96, which is less good than I expected but still quite good. Fantasy soundtrack.
Bonus question: I prefer going to bed and waking up late.
Joseph Douglas, patron: (@Cavalier_Remix): My company graciously gave us an extra long holiday weekend for Labor Day – Thursday through Tuesday – so I tried to take advantage of as much of that extra free time as I could to game. My partner’s mother has been staying with us for a couple weeks, though, so it hasn’t been easy to sneak away and hunker down at the computer, but I still somehow managed. I pop on to Guild Wars 2 every night to bang out some of the easier PvE and PvP dailies (gotta keep getting those easy 10 APs), and I check the gem store weekly for stuff I’m missing (e.g., the elusive Exalted Ley Hunter jackal skin).
I played a bit of Fortnite with my partner’s kid, me on my PC and him on our Switch, trying to clear out some of the many map missions I’ve left hanging for some time now, particularly since the current season is ending soon. Even though I haven’t been as active this season as in those previous, I’m still curious and excited to see how this one ends with the alien ship event! I hopped onto DC Universe Online to check out Episode 41, and ran a few instances in the new Quick Play system on my CR 297 main. I’m definitely not a fan of the stat-clamp, and found myself getting frustrated about being hoisted into instances for which I haven’t yet seen any backstory. I noticed Source Mark acquisition (the life-blood of progression in the game) is a terribly grindy affair, as well. Hopefully we start seeing fruits from the recent survey sooner rather than later, because I still love this game and want to see it thrive.
Speaking of an MMO I want to see thrive again, I logged on to Star Wars: The Old Republic and tried to re-acclimate myself by playing through some of the class stories on my super low-leveled Smuggler and Agent alts. Eliot’s recent Daily Grind articles about terrible voice acting and trying MMO’s again got me inspired to jump back into the fray between the Republic and the Empire. On my main character, there’s still a chasm of content I have to cross before I’m ready for the upcoming expansion, but I’ll chip away at it bit by bit. And finally, my main focus over the past few weeks has been to continue working on the Shadowbringers main story quests in Final Fantasy XIV on my PLD, as well as working in parallel to do the role-specific quests in the Crystarium with my RDM, WHM, and NIN. My hope is to complete all of the expansion (and post-expansion) MSQ content before Endwalker drops in November, but with so many upcoming MMOs on the horizon and other games on my radar, I suppose we shall have to see.
