Welcome back to Massively Overpowered’s formal end-of-the-year awards! You thought we were done, but surprise: We have one more. Over the course of our awards discussions this year, MOP’s Ben proposed that we institute a lifetime achievement award specifically to honor an MMORPG that has made a significant contribution to the genre over the course of its lifetime and the genre’s history but may not be recognized within the confines of our regular awards.
It’s a great idea, and it’s one we’ve decided to adopt. We’ll bestow it this year upon none other than EVE Online. EVE may be a contentious MMORPG, but it’s unique in the universe, its stories of intrigue and drama are legendary, its contributions to citizen science are unmatched, it’s still getting significant updates in spite of being older than, well, some of its own players. Thank you for your service to the industry, EVE.
