The Daily Grind: Do you like repeated event content in MMOs?

Drinking would help here.

When World of Warcraft’s holidays come around each year, they are largely the same as the event that you experienced last year, which was the same as the year before that, and so on. Sometimes new little quests or minigames are added along the way, and that’s nice, but by and large you’ll be doing the same thing each new year as you were doing on previous years, working your way toward the same rewards. This is not a game wherein every new year brings wildly different content that may or may not be to your taste.

Is this a bad thing? I think that depends entirely on what you want and expect from this content. The goodness or lack thereof is linked to that particular experience. On the bright side, it means that once you’ve done all of the stuff available from an event, you are pretty much done with it for a while, and that can sometimes be a nice thing. Plus, you know that if you didn’t care for the rewards before, you’re not going to need to pay attention this time either. It means there’s less chance of missing something, let’s be real.

At the same time… well, it means that the event is going to be exactly the same as the last time, whether that’s a good thing or not. It means nothing new to consistently look forward to and no chance of a surprising new reward. So do you like repeated event content in MMOs?
