Hey stream-watching folks – this Daily Grind is for you. I recently flipped through the comments of a Reddit thread attempting to demonstrate MMO popularity based on Twitch views. The replies were unimpressed, as they noted that everything from Twitch drops to boring-or confusing-to-watch gameplay affected Twitch views and didn’t reflect the size of MMOs at all.

This is probably true, but I thought it would be an interesting conversation. I know some folks watch because they enjoy the streamer’s personality. Others watch because they’re super into that one game. Some people just like shooting the breeze with the audience, or they’re bored and just flipping around looking for whatever MMO is popular right now. And yes, still others would never tune in at all if it weren’t for the promise of free loot in the form of Twitch drops.

You tell me: What’s your primary motivation to watch MMO (not just general gaming) streams?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
