The Daily Grind: Do you ever bump into MMO players in the real world?

I don’t know about you, but when I move about town — in stores, through sewers, hopping from rooftop to rooftop like the dark figure of justice that I am — I kind of assume that most people around me have never heard of MMOs, never mind are actually players. That mindset makes me very open to being surprised when I do encounter another MMO player in the course of a casual conversation.

This actually happened the other day as I was conversing with a high school student at church and he revealed that he played MMOs. He said it in an off-hand, you-probably-don’t-know-what-these-are apologetic tone, but when I told him I may be slightly associated with the genre, his eyes lit up and we talked raids and games for a while.

Do you ever bump into MMO players in the real world — not a planned meet-up, mind you, but just out of the blue? What was that like?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
