All MMO playtimes follow the same basic arc. First, you’re just curious about how much time you’ve played this game. Then, you’re impressed at how long you’ve played so far. Then you realize that’s a lot of time and it becomes almost shameful. You can repeat as often as you like, it never gets any lower. But how often do you actually look at your time spent playing an MMO in the first place?

For some games it’s quite easy; if you’re playing a game on Steam, it’ll inform you just how long you’ve played right when you load up the game on the library interface. Other games make it far more difficult, forcing you to type in a specific command and even potentially keep track of different numbers across multiple characters. But how often do you check that time of your own volition? When do you stop in to see how much of your lifetime you’ve sunk into this game?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
