Well, folks, I’m back. Don’t worry, this isn’t a fakeout like last week, the What Are You Playing engine is no longer an issue. I had tried feeding it contradictory data, but that didn’t work, and I tried ramping up the degree of nonsense, but that was basically unnoticed. I even tried giving it self-awareness in the hopes that it would look upon what it was doing, feel a sense of shame, and beam itself into space with enlightenment. But it turns out that’s actually really hard.
So what did I do? I remembered that it’s a computer and you can just unplug those. Then I sent it through a trash compactor and got a new one. Please enjoy this important video.
So, what are you playing this weekend?
Bonus question: What video game with optional multiplayer (not an MMO, in other words) do you think you’ve spent the most time in as a multiplayer title?
Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Doing some dog sitting, so Orna will get more attention than usual for quick spurts, Pokemon Go when I’m out (the Plus+ mostly seems to work these days), and I’d like to do some Splatoon 3 Splatfest prep but I dunno if this little dog will let me.
Oh man, this is a tough one. I feel like I’ve played a lot of Mario Kart 64, but it could also be Monster Hunter Tri or Monster Hunter Rise. Shoot, or maybe Animal Crossing: New Horizons. COVID really had me leaning into console gaming with people again, even more so than my time in Japan!
Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’ve been repairing my vendors in Star Wars Galaxies Legends, and I am hoping to peek into Palia this weekend, but also we’re knee-deep in our murderbasement renovation, so I probably won’t have tons of time to devote.
Probably Diablo II or Diablo III for me.
Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): I’ll probably be doing a bare bit of Final Fantasy XIV Blue Mage leveling, but most of my focus is probably going to be spread around among Palia, Remnant 2 with my husband, and Craftopia. Overall I’m feeling pretty spoiled for choice this weekend!
I don’t know that there are many games that I play with optional multiplayer engaged at all times, to be honest. I tend to keep the fences between my single-player game time and MMO/multiplayer games pretty high for the most part.
Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): There’s stuff to do in FFXIV and do it I shall! Some of the hype has worn off the announcement from the fan festival, but we’re already looking ahead to the next patch and the next festival. Keeps things rolling. Aside from that, I have a couple single-player games I want to check out.
Definitely Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer. Generally I only play multiplayer after I’m done with the main game, so I was initially grumpy about how the game incentivized playing multiplayer from an early point. Then I actually played it and had such a great time that it no doubt accounted for a lot of my time in that game on a whole, and it kept the game kinda perpetually in my mind. I really loved it.
Tyler Edwards (blog): I just got my Palia beta invite, so probably that.
Bonus question: Easily StarCraft II. While I did dabble with PvP for a little while, I have sunk countless hours into its co-op missions.
