The Daily Grind: What are you hoping to hear from this year’s BlizzCon?

Yeah, bye.

Perhaps I think or say this every year, but I truly feel that 2023’s BlizzCon is setting up for a make-or-break moment for Blizzard. There are so many expectations, questions, and concerns being heaped on the studio in light of its lawsuits, Microsoft buyout, and development pipeline. I can’t imagine how the leadership at Blizz is handling the pressure of having to reassure fans that it’s got a bold vision for its future despite the many missteps of the past several years.

And I can’t imagine how Chris Metzen isn’t going to suddenly collapse from the weight of millions of World of Warcraft players trusting that he’ll pull off a miracle.

From where you’re sitting, what do you hope you’ll hear from BlizzCon next month? What would be the smartest thing for the studio to do and say? What would inject excitement for its several franchises? What could it do to restore trust and adjust its course? Let’s workshop this in the comments!

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
