The Daily Grind: Have class nerfs ever driven you to quit an MMO?

It’s part of the cycle of MMO patches: The thing you like is probably going to get nerfed, but wait a few months and it’ll get buffed again, and on and on. Play a live service genre long enough and you become inured to the cycles, and you just play.

That’s how I’ve always thought of it, anyway. But a guildie of mine recently noted that a certain multiplayer title had nerfed his favorite build, and so he left, and then he just… never went back. Not even with new content or promises. Sometimes, you can’t rebuild trust, not when there are other games to play.

Have nerfs ever driven you to quit an MMO? We don’t mean NGE-levels of “nerfing the entire MMO into a different game,” just basic skill or class nerfs that happened to hit you hard at just the right moment.

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
