The Daily Grind: What do you want from an expansion reveal event for an MMORPG?

Here’s the honest truth: As I become older and more tired, I am increasingly worn out by big gigantic events announcing a new expansion for any MMORPG. I understand why these events exist and how they are meant to generate hype, but I would honestly prefer just getting a nice press release with a bunch of nice quality screens so that I can write up my coverage a few days in advance and maybe sleep in. Theoretically sleep in, I mean. I barely sleep most days, let’s not front.

But that won’t let everyone get hyped up for days in advance, and it also surely won’t produce the same kind of hype energy and general news cycle focus as a big event. And I don’t think that’s an invalid desire, either; I can absolutely understand people who want to have a big multi-day party about the next expansion coming down the pipe. So what do you want from an expansion reveal event for an MMORPG? A small livestream? A big party? The game director coming to your house and personally singing a love song or punching you in the throat, depending?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
