New World’s Eternal Frost update is finally here after a bit of a nailbiter wait. Readers will recall that on Monday, Amazon announced that the patch wouldn’t make its Tuesday rollout owing to a bug, owing to the fact that “during the final rounds of testing [it] discovered an issue with Eternal Frost that remain[ed] unresolved.” As of this morning, however, it’s live at server up, the patch includes the new season, holiday event, and Glacial Tarn expedition.
Do note that the new cross-realm group finder isn’t in this patch, though at one point it was still on the 2023 roadmap; Amazon has explained in-depth that it delayed the feature for quality reasons. “[W]hen we talked about cross-world expeditions, which was planned for season four, we really wanted to lean into it and go for a full PUG finder because we think that would be a much better experience for players,” Amazon’s Scot Lane said in November. “And that’s going to cost us a little more time as well.
Incidentally, a gamer on Twitter asked Amazon about a possible console release for the game, and Amazon actually answered, though it’s not what consolers will want to hear. “Unfortunately, we have no current plans to release New World on consoles. If this changes, we will be sure to let you all know!”
In the meantime, if you were looking for something super bizarre to welcome your holidays, how about this video of a puppet version of Scot Lane explaining the lore of New World’s Winter Convergence festival to a puppet yeti in front of a sparkling festive tree? Happy Christmas, everyone.
