Layoffs.

No, really, I suspect “thousands of game devs being laid off from nearly every major game studio and also some of the small ones” is probably going to make it into several “worst things of 2023 for the MMO genre” lists, and as far as I’m concerned, watching our genre continue to dump its workforce and institutional knowledge overboard to save the CEOs from their bad decisions is deeply painful and an awful trend that dominated the whole year, from Blizzard to Xbox to Sony to Amazon to Bungie to Embracer to Unity to Epic and on and on and on. Recovery is going to be painful.
