The Daily Grind: Which MMO has the best player community as of 2023?

“Best community” is one of our recurring Daily Grind topics every year, and I always stick it on Christmas because I can’t stand the thought of a catty first post today. Maybe catty posts later today. I can’t promise anything. But this morning? No. I want to talk about the places where MMO players can go to really experience all the highs and few of the lows of a warm and bustling community.

Lord of the Rings Online often gets mentioned in threads like this, and having played it as a core MMORPG the last few years, I’d have to agree it belongs on the short list, warts and all. I have to say that several of the rogue server communities I belong to are also incredible; there’s nothing that binds people together in an MMO so much as the shared knowledge that we lost this game and we remember how that feels and now that we’ve got it back we’re not going to take it for granted.

But I’d be remiss not to mention Project Gorgon’s community too, as this year they pitched in a ton of money to keep the game’s lights on and its devs as healthy as possible in the face of cancer.

Which MMO has the best player community as of 2023? Where should MMO players go today to get a dose of warm fuzzies from the community itself?
