Jukebox Heroes: A yuletide soundtrack for a gaming holiday

The winter night hushed to a halt to allow the wind to whisper. “Take heart, my friends,” she crooned over snow-capped hills and frozen lakes. “For just when everything has come to a halt, that is when you can hear my song the best. So listen — listen for joy, and for contentment, and for a different kind of beauty that is only found this time of year.”

Merry Christmas, my friends. Enjoy another heaping helping of MMORPG holiday soundtracks to liven up your gaming sessions over the break!

“Frostfell Good Cities” from EverQuest II: Good cities have the goodest music, or so I’ve heard.

“Fae Yule Music Box” from RIFT: If I could make one wish to Santa this year, it’s that RIFT would get an owner worthy of it in 2024.

“Sea Shanty XMas” from Old School RuneScape: Even pirates take a day every year to stop taking other people’s presents and electing to give them instead!

“Winter Convergence” from New World: There may be a nip in the air, but New World’s atmosphere will keep you toasty warm through the season.

“Spirits of Tradition” from Destiny 2: A little bit epic and a little bit traditional, this piece might make you forget the misfortunes that this game’s seen in 2023.

“Life Day Music” from Star Wars Galaxies: OK, I know I’ve used this before, but it’s not the holidays without its pure scifi cheese from a galaxy far, far away!

“Winter Veil” from World of Warcraft: Legion: This is my favorite music from this game’s holiday soundtrack by far. (Thanks, Zoward and Yrys!)

And finally, while it’s not musical, Palia provided us all a two-hour yule log fireplace:

MMOs are meant to be heard as well as seen, and chances are that music ties your memories to these games more than you might realize. Every two weeks Jukebox Heroes listens through a game soundtrack and picks out the highlights to share and discuss. And if you like this column, then don’t miss the author’s MMO music podcast, Battle Bards!
