It’s a new year in Old School RuneScape, and it’s being kicked off with the MMORPG’s very first quest line. Say hello to Children of the Sun, a quest that will begin laying the groundwork for the Varlamore storyline and the opening of the Shining Kingdom.

“Children of the Sun begins on the familiar streets of Varrock, where a delegation from Varlamore has arrived to sign a treaty with the rulers of Misthalin. It’s a day for celebration, but something’s amiss… you’d better find out what’s going on!”

This new quest is open only to subscribers and awards just a quest point and access to the yet-unopened Varlamore area, but players are still encouraged to get the deed done in order to hop into the zone once it does become available later.

On top of the new quest, this week’s update brings on several changes to Kourend that players voted for including the end of the Kourend favor system, transport improvements within the zone, and updates to the Kharedst’s Memoirs book. Jagex has also outlined a number of updates to activities that will be available in Varlamore, specifically tweaking its agility course and promising that later updates will bring activities for higher-level players.
