Old School RuneScape summons Scurrius the Rat King in its latest patch

“Something utterly horrible, an abomination beyond our wildest nightmares, is lurking in Varrock Sewers. It calls itself… Scurrius, the Rat King.” Thus opens the latest content update for Old School RuneScape as it heralds the arrival of the new royal rodent boss fight.

This mutant rat beast is distinct from other PvM battles in that it attacks with all three combat styles, is designed to teach combat mechanics, and is catered to mid-level players who are trying to increase their skills in ranged, magic, or melee.

Naturally there are more tangible rewards on offer as well, specifically an untradeable rat bone spine item that can be used to craft unique bow, staff, or mace weapons that are more effective against rat enemies. Additional spines can be looted and turned in to an NPC for combat XP.

The rest of the MMORPG’s newsletter offers up a summary video of its Winter Summit reveals, confirms a bug that was eating up specific blood runes, asks players to fill out a post-Leagues IV survey, and invites players to join the Discord to find clans since the official forums are being sunsetted in March.
