All right so I’m not actually sure what you need to learn here. For one thing, ham is a meat that comes from pigs. You do not get ham literally from snakes. If you are trying to do that, stop doing that. You shouldn’t actually try to get any meat from snakes. I don’t think it’s generally harmful but snakes are friendly noodles. Don’t do it. I like snakes. (I don’t actually care about pigs.)
If your problem is instead that a snake or a number of snakes are denying you access to your ham, then it feels like while this is a problem that I could conceivably help you with, there’s just… so much going on here. Why are there snakes around your ham? Why was there ever a possibility that some snakes could get to ham? Do you keep your meat in the same enclosure as snakes? This just raises further questions.
In summary, please answer What Are You Playing and just let the snakes have the ham. In fact, let the snakes answer What Are You Playing for you. The snakes have your life now.
Bonus question: What’s the longest single thing you’ve written? (Yes, we’re talking a single project here, so a series of articles does count if they’re all part of a single sub-theme.)
Andy McAdams: This weekend will probably be more City of Heroes and Palworld. I’m still subscribed to World of Warcraft, but very bored with doing the same three things over and over and over. I have a whole stable of level 70s and its just ugh. The game is in a better state than its been in years, but still has a long way to go.
Uhm, I’ll go with my undergrad thesis – first draft was 100 pages, and then my advisor gave me a page limit of 40 pages. My final paper was exactly 40 pages long. That editing experience scarred me for life.
Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’ll be in City of Heroes again. I’ve finally finished touring every single public base I could find on every server (hahah oh no), so now it’s time to decide my favorites for a write-up. Oh, and I might play the game or something too. Been leveling my Zombies/Therm MM a bit this week!
Bonus: My thesis for sure.
Carlo Lacsina (@UltraMudkipEX, YouTube, Twitch): I’ll be playing Phantasy Star Online 2, but also some work sadly. This week’s been pretty emotionally draining for me, so stuff I couldn’t finish over the week will need to be done over the weekend. My wife bought Persona 3 Reload too, so I’ll be watching her play.
Been a hot minute since I’ve written anything super long, but I’ve written out the year-long curriculum for a class. That was a pretty massive document that involved the syllabus, content, and specific units.
Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): It’s looking like City of Heroes is the prime meal on my menu this weekend, mostly because I’ve come up with what I think are some enjoyable Tanker, Dominator, and Defender powerset combos/character concepts. Now all I need is some roleplay to fall into and I’ll be set.
I think one of the longest things I’ve written was the daily blogs I wrote when taking part in a Blaugust a few years ago. It was the first time that I wrote something for 30 days straight and is a feat I’m yet to match. Though perhaps I’ll give it another bash with writing my own novel. Or at least taking part in NaNoWriMo; that’s my next writing-focused white whale.
Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Final Fantasy XIV stuff and CoH stuff when I have some free time, but after finishing my review of Granblue Fantasy: Relink (which I liked, you can check out the review if you want) I have a project with a quick turnaround and then a really big title to review. Obviously I can’t talk about either, but at least it means the weekend won’t be boring.
At one point I checked one of my longest fanfic projects, and it clocked in around 210k words. Now… that doesn’t mean it was good, if I went back through that thing I would edit it savagely and I think it might come in at half of that. I am not going to do that, though, I’m pretty sure the internet has eaten it. That’s assuming, of course, I do not count my contiguous columns; if that’s the case, just basic math of “an FFXIV column every week of every year since 2015 that is at a minimum 1200 words” dwarfs anything else.
Sam Kash (@thesamkash): It’s the last few days of the dueling event in Harry Potter Magic Awakened and I can’t wait for it to be over. I should be able to hold onto my 2nd place spot in my House. The amount of time I’ve spent logging in and knocking out the duels has been ridiculous. But I’m sure it won’t be worth it. At least I’ll have confirmed that though. In single player world I started Turnip Boy Robs a Bank. It’s a silly bullet hell sort of game but I enjoy the humor.
Bonus: Yikes, you know I don’t really write a lot. Probably the longest single project was the main help document for a company’s program. Mostly pictures and diagrams but PDFd it into like 800 pages.
Tyler Edwards (blog): I’m honestly not sure. I tried getting back into Star Trek Online but it didn’t really stick. I’ve been doing a lot of prestige leveling in StarCraft 2 co-op, but I’m getting a little burnt out on that. I’m mostly playing the Waiting Game while I wait for Steam Next Fest, the next New World patch, and the launch of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, all of which are happening within about a week of each other. It never rains but it pours.
Bonus question: My first novel clocked in at just under 140K words.
