Ever since I got back into Final Fantasy XIV, I’ve had to remember to take a daily trip up to the gold saucer to buy my three cactpot lotto tickets (as well as my three big weekly ones). Everyone seems to like playing this version of the lottery, although the one to assign available housing spots seems to raise blood pressure instead excitement.
But that got me thinking about lotteries and other types of in-game gambling — both the ones designed by the devs and the ones that the community creates. I guess they can add some element of unpredictability and elation, if the loot table’s RNG wasn’t already doing that enough.
