New World’s latest video talks up the benefits of mounts in Outpost Rush PvP

As players wait for Amazon to establish a new date for the launch of New World’s Season of the Guardian after its unfortunate but apparently necessary delay last week, we’ve got Forged in Aeternum to keep us busy. This week’s edition features senior producer Katy Kaszynski, social features lead Dan Henuber, and senior gameplay engineer Scott Geiser talking up two great tastes that will (eventually) go great together: mounts and Outpost Rush.

“When we built mounts, we kind of had to go through instance, like all of our various things, and kind of ask, ‘Do we want mounts in this?'” Henuber explains. “We did initially experiment with it. Anybody who played in the expansion PTR will remember that we had mounts in there because we were playing with it. And it ended up that there were a couple of minor concerns, so we did disable for the expansion.”

Those concerns have been “ironed out now” thanks to heaps of playtesting, though Amazon is not unaware that players still might still have questions… and juicy exploits, although Henuber grins while calling those “new emergent mechanics.” Overall, the studio isn’t too worried as mounts dismount riders on damage, which means there’s lots of ways to stop people from fast escape, split up zergs by function, and create epic charges in PvP modes like OPR.

“In general, it just adds to the chaos of the mode [and] feels very fast-paced,” he concludes.
