Just because Blizzard has canceled quite a few promising projects over the years and suffered shocking layoffs in 2024 doesn’t mean that the studio has foresworn new games. As a matter of fact, the studio has started posting several job listings for an unannounced title.

The mysterious listings including some high-level positions, including creative director, senior art director, combat AI design director, senior FX artist, narrative director, and more.

The posts aren’t letting slip what the game is, of course, but does make mention of multi-season story arcs, “abstract magical and technological effects,” and AI combat systems. One example: “We are in search of a Creative Director to help grow and advance the creative vision of our unannounced game. The ideal candidate has a passion for design and is able to effectively communicate the game’s objectives through high-quality visual content.”

VG247 notes that these job listings may be connected to Xbox’s Phil Spencer, who recently stated that “he’d personally like to see a revival of legacy Activision Blizzard IP.”

Activision-Blizzard is considered a controversial gaming company owing to a long string of scandals going back to 2019, including the Blitzchung boycott, mass layoffs, labor disputes, pay disparities, sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuits, federal settlements, executive misconduct, botched Chinese partnership, unionbusting, disastrous management, brain drain, and bungled games. As of 2023, the company was finally acquired by Microsoft; just this year, it’s laid off 800 workers and misled gamers about WoW subs.
