Everyone’s long since given up on #NoChanges, right? We’ve all just accepted that World of Warcraft Classic was never #NoChanges and was always going to be #SomeChanges and that even the #NoChanges people were OK with dramatic #SomeChanges as long as they reinforced ahistorical narratives and/or gatekept undesirables? Fabulous, then we’re all on the same page, and you’ll want to know what the latest #SomeChanges for Cataclysm actually are. Blizzard has helpfully outlined them on the game’s forums.
Most notably, hunter pets won’t launch with the original Cataclysm ruleset. “Hunter pets will function differently in the 4.4.0 Cataclysm Classic Pre-patch than they did in original Cataclysm patch 4.0.3a,” Blizzard says. “In original Cataclysm, Hunter players were able to place 5 pets in their stable and summon them anywhere in the world. Initially in patch 4.4.0, Hunter pets will work the same way they do in Wrath Classic. Hunters will continue to be able to summon 1 pet and will need to go to a Stablemaster to switch to a different one. We will update this Hunter functionality with the Cataclysm Classic expansion content launch (or sooner).”
It also sounds as if Void Storage is never happening as it’ll be usurped by account-wide tmog and the collections feature, the guild perk system has been “streamlined” so you won’t feel like second-class citizens if you don’t join a guild, the guild finder and guild calendar is coming but won’t make launch, and drop rates from Wrath Classic will carry over into the Cata prepatch. Players don’t seem all that fussed about most of the changes with the exception of Void Storage.
The WoW Classic Cataclysm pre-patch kicks off at 6 p.m. EDT this evening, adding Gobbos and Worgens, new class/race combos, archaeology, the talent/spell/stat overhaul, and tmogging.
