Enlisted makes its return to Steam, and this time it’s completely free-to-play

Gaijin Entertainment’s multiplayer WWII FPS Enlisted was meant to make a big early access launch on Steam, but instead the shooter stumbled out of the gate, with account linking technical issues and anger at a $20 price tag for the Steam version (when it was otherwise free-to-play as a direct download) causing the studio to de-list the shooter for an indeterminate length of time. It looks as if that time away has been helpful, as it is now back on Steam, this time as a fully released and free-to-play game.

“Commanders, as you requested, Enlisted is now available on Steam for free,” heralds Gaijin’s announcement. “We have carefully read your feedback, improved the account linking system and adjusted numerous aspects of the game based on your suggestions.”

The studio further points out that account linking is available and that those who move their PC client accounts to Steam will retain all of their purchases, account progress, and equipment. However, Gaijin will only allow for account linking to occur for a limited time due to unexplained technical reasons that still appear to be hamstringing the process. The devs will try to maintain this feature for as long as possible and will notify players in advance when this account linking window closes.

The shooter’s Steam launch otherwise brings all of the content and refinements of its previous updates alongside a bunch of new premium squads for those who have the urge to burn money on the game’s DLC. Rather interestingly, Gaijin points out that PC players who continue to purchases from the native PC client “will reach the developers in full without any commission, which will help further develop the game.” Read in to that what you will, or otherwise just hop into the game or check out the trailer below.
