Little Orbit has major plans for APB Reloaded on deck – and we don’t just mean sunsetting the console version. Version 1.31, dubbed New Horizon, is aimed directly at free-to-play players with a range of content that “snowballed” given how much time has passed since the last big patch. Consequently, the team says it’s “hoping New Horizon sets a new bar for APB and offers a ‘jumping on point’ for many players who have felt there was nothing new in the game.”
The patch content includes new contacts, a fresh type of anti-cheat detection, a revamp and redistro of contact rewards, lowered mod rank reqs, a revamp of the Waterfront district, a new legendary rifle, vehicle tweaks, and more.
“[W]e focused a lot on new free content. It’s something I have wanted to do in the past, but for various reasons we haven’t been able to. It’s a bit of an experiment, as we’re now giving away more free items than ever in the regular progression of the game. We took time to identify and fill in gaps for weapons and vehicles that otherwise weren’t available.”
The studio does drop a little unfortunate news in the dev letter, saying that layoffs at the studio led to a need to retrain devs to work on this patch, which slowed it down. The studio does not elaborate on how many workers were let go. We also don’t have a date for the update, though Little Orbit says the “goal [is] to launch Version 1.31 New Horizon in the next couple of weeks.”
