New World effectively ends Season of the Guardian early after ‘issue’ takes out season leaderboard

Welp, if you weren’t already worried about New World with its Aeternum on the way and its ongoing PC content drought, the drought just got droughtier. Droughtier is too a word.

Back on August 6th, Amazon announced that there was an “issue with the seasonal leaderboards not updating properly” and that it was investigation. The season in question here is Season of the Guardian, which has been dragging on since April 2nd, as the studio told players in June not to expect another one before Aeternum launches, meaning that by then, PC players will have gone more than half a year without a new one.

But now, it also appears this one is being cut short, or at least those busted leaderboards aren’t getting unbusted, as Amazon announced last night that they’re not coming back after all.

“Unfortunately, Seasonal Leaderboards will not be reactivating this season. We will be ending the Season 5 Leaderboards on 8/13 at 5PM PT (8/14 at 12AM UTC).
If you are currently ranked, you will automatically receive your reward. For those who would have ranked by 8/13, we will be sending the Season 5 Chestpiece Skins at a later date.”

The New World playerbase is taking it well. Just kidding; they’re openly contemptuous, with some people wondering why Amazon wouldn’t spare even one person to fix the season to avoid upsetting the remaining PC playerbase. The average Steam concurrency has now dropped to under 4000 daily.
