The well of creativity for survival sandboxes hasn’t dried up yet, for better or for worse, and Funcom is determined to get in on that action before player interest moves elsewhere. Well, it does have Conan Exiles. And Dune Awakening. So maybe this is more the studio’s wheelhouse these days.

In any case, right now we’re talking about Aloft, Astrolabe’s co-op sandbox that is set among magical floating islands. The studio, backed by Tencent-owned Funcom, released a new trailer this week with the word that the game is launching this fall.

Aloft is a co-op sandbox survival game where you soar freely through a beautiful world of floating islands, each with its own living ecosystem. Build a home and a helm, and transform any island into your own personal skyship to set sail for the ever-present hurricane in the distance,” Astrolabe says.
