Throne & Liberty counts 3M players in its first week as Amazon has now added 55 extra servers

The MMORPG community may be confused over the burgeoning Steam counts and mixed reviews for Throne and Liberty, but somebody is thrilled with the game’s performance – two somebodies, even. Amazon and NCsoft released a memo last night announcing that “more than three million players” have shown up for the game’s first week of play.

“Global players have shown their enthusiasm for Throne and Liberty in the days since the free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by NCSOFT and published by Amazon Games made its global launch on Oct. 1, with more than 3 million registered players answering the call to reclaim Solisium,” Amazon’s announcement says. “Players around the world have already amassed 24 million hours in the game, with more than 11 million hours watched on Twitch.”

What the memo doesn’t do is break down those numbers. During the paid headstart, the game crested to a Steam peak concurrency of 326K; this past Sunday, the MMO’s first weekend after its proper free-to-play launch, it beat that number with 336K. We don’t have solid concurrency numbers for either console, nor do we know how that 3 million figure splits over paid and free players or PC and console players.

Either way, Amazon has continued shoring up support for all those customers; it added 41 new servers during the headstart, then another 14 over the last week, all while repeatedly boosting capacity for existing servers. The new 14 are:

NA West – Ashur, Talandre, Tiago, Veron, Stoneguard
NA East – Bercant, Kuaku, Immortality, Desire
Asia Pacific – Malakar, Chimaerus, Resolution, Bailey, Taion

“We’re only getting started, and we have a series of updates planned including our first castle siege coming soon,” Amazon VP Christoph Hartmann concludes.

Stay tuned; we’ve got another impressions piece on the game coming later today!
