New Blizzard job posting reignites hopes for a potential StarCraft open-world shooter

Out of all of the IPs that Blizzard owns, few of them seem more underused than StarCraft, which is a shame because the game’s setting seems like an easy fit into a few different genres like, say, an open world shooter. If that example sounds very specific, that’s because it was referenced by Blizzard itself in a recent job posting on its website.

The job ad seeks an associate design director to help with an unannounced “upcoming open-world shooter game,” while generally being vague about the title and invoking the spirit of David Bowie (oddly enough). Other job postings flagged as related seek a design director, a lead game designer, and designers to build out missions, combat, and enemy AI, but none of them openly note these positions are for an open-world shooter; only that these are for an unannounced game.

The job postings all have helped to spool up hopes that a StarCraft shooter, which was confirmed by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier as “a project in development,” is indeed moving forward, though we also have to point out that this attempt was made by Blizzard before and got canned after two years of work. Fingers crossed that this time around this one might materialize.
