If you like interstellar travel, space exploration, and sci-fi empire building, and you’re willing to take a chance on a smaller game in early access, then your boxes may be ticked by SpaceCraft, an upcoming “online space exploration and building game” from developer Shiro Games, who most might know as the studio developing Dune Spice Wars.
“Freely explore an immense universe where the vastness of space stretches before you, full of untold possibilities. Pilot your spaceship and journey through systems brimming with planets, asteroid fields, abandoned space stations and derelict ships. Cover great distances in an instant with Faster-Than-Light technology, jumping between distant systems with ease.”
According to the game’s Steam page, SpaceCraft dives deeply into the exploration pool while not tying itself down to overbearing survival elements. Players will focus on exploring planets, finding resources, and using them to craft unique ships for personal use as well as trading ship blueprints with other players. There’s also an emphasis on managing an expanding commercial empire, with players forming corporations to work together at larger scales. As for combat, that’s described as highly tactical, with fights consisting primarily of three phases: detection, pursuit, and engagement.
The game is flagged as an MMO on Steam but it ultimately doesn’t grant any indication of server size and also labels itself as a single-player game. Either way, SpaceCraft is targeting an early access release on the platform for sometime next year. Shiro Games promises “a balanced and stable game, ready to be explored and enjoyed,” while additional planned updates include new planets, new ways to explore the universe, and more social features for corporations. Early access development is earmarked for approximately six months at minimum.
