Earlier this week we checked in on Corepunk to follow up on earlier server crashes, finding that servers have been mostly restored (albeit with a slight rollback) and that new problems surrounding Tier 3 artifacts have cropped up, as an update meant to remove items from boss drops instead deleted them from everyone.
It looks as if the studio is deciding to not directly fix the problem, choosing instead to hand all affected players a unique color skin and sticker for the in-game cyber spider mount – despite knowing who was affected by the error.
“We have a complete list of all players who lost Tier 3 artifacts, including how many each person lost. While we could spend around a week writing and testing a new script to restore each item for every affected character, this would take valuable time away from improving the game and moving forward. We need to focus on creating a better experience for everyone.
“We also recognize that nothing can fully compensate for the time and effort invested in obtaining these items. Our goal isn’t to compensate for lost time but to show our engagement in this situation and let you know that we understand and care. […] We always feel the pain of players losing their hard-earned items – it’s an investment of time, effort, and dedication. We hope you can understand our actions and see that our ultimate goal is to create an amazing and engaging game.”
The devs continue to admit that mistakes were made and further point out that mistakes are likely to happen again. “We’re not a team that can achieve perfection on the first try, but we are a team that will see this through to the end, no matter how many mistakes we make along the way,” they write.
Reaction to this compensation appears to be understandably negative, with many folks expressing frustration through clown face emoji reactions to the announcement, open musing on how this all happened, and posting a variety of disgruntled jokes.
