The Daily Grind: How closely do you track your spending on free-to-play MMOs?

I just felt like running.

When it comes to free-to-play games, you might find yourself inadvertently spending way more than a subscription price every month. Not necessarily, of course. Leaving aside the free-to-play games that offer a subscription anyway, you may not find a whole lot of cosmetic stuff you want to buy at any given interval. But sometimes there’s a string of new cosmetics or new stuff offered, and the next thing you know you have actually spent a lot more on this game than you meant to in the first place.

But the question today isn’t about that but how you track your spending in free-to-play MMOs. Obviously, the people who are operating the games are hoping you will spend some money, since that’s kind of the point of the business. But do you keep careful track of how much you’ve spent over a given period? Do you try to make sure you average about a monthly subscription price? Do you wait for sales? Try to minimize your spending? How closely do you track what you spend on free-to-play MMOs?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
