The Daily Grind: Which MMO is just the worst about one-shotting?

Skyforge doesn’t get nearly enough attention from the greater MMO-playing public in my estimation, but it popped back into my field of view when a Redditor on the MMORPG sub related a tale of the time he and a friend were one-shotted most unceremoniously by a boss in the game.

“My prideful ego and confidence made me rush at the boss,” Makey writes. “He literally jumped in the air and SLAMMED back down and one shotted me and her. All you heard was me screaming ‘WHAT?!?!’ […] The awkward silence was more painful than getting one shotted, but after we laughed about it lol.”

I’m gonna be honest, I absolutely despise one-shotting in MMOs, whether it’s in PvP or PvE. I always feel like if players have no chance to react to something, it’s just an annoying prank by the developers. Jousting is annoying enough, but if the crits stack so high that even a tank is getting owned without warning? Meh. That’s almost as bad as when a rogue can stunlock you and kill you before you can break free.

I’m glad Makey could laugh it off. It’s a good attitude. I’d have been crankier! Which MMO would you say is just the worst about one-shotting?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
