Let’s take a look back at the charming little single-player/multiplayer RPG Swords ‘n Magic and Stuff, which readers will recall made its way to Steam Early Access at the beginning of September. Since then, there have been a number of hotfixes, but we’re here to talk about two more substantial updates.
First, an update added at the beginning of October has brought Halloween to the game world, with unique seasonal dialogue from NPCs depending on the time of day as well as certain monsters that only spawn at night. There’s also two new mobs and over 15 new items for players to collect. Those are all the details that the devs are willing to part with; the rest will have to be experienced by players themselves.
Next, we have a planned update for October 20th which will introduce a combat pet system, letting players tame a critter, watch it gain experience and grow, and even outfit it with armor to make it a formidable ally. Players will even be able to trade pet companions with their friends.
Finally, that same update post notes that the planned player housing system and furniture has had to be pushed back to a later update, which will arrive on November 17th. “The housing system is quite complex, and while we’ve been working on it this month, we’ve come to realize that it will need some extra care and attention to finish it and make sure it’s tested to the standard we’re happy with before pushing the update live,” explains the post.
