The Daily Grind: What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever bought in an MMO?

There are two types of MMORPG players: the type who spends game currency like there’s no tomorrow because it’s a video game and why not, and the type who literally tracks video game currency in a spreadsheet with a budget and a plan for expenses.

I am the second type, unfortunately, but I am trying to be more like the first type because seriously Bree, YOLO. So I’ve been trying to ease off the spreadsheets a little in my core MMO, SWG Legends. I’ve been trying to buy more fun stuff. I’m trying not to cringe over dropping a couple hundred million on houses and deco. It’s just a video game, just a rogue server, so enjoy it while you can. You literally cannot take it with you.

Of course, trying to be more freewheeling with my video game checkbook has also led to my buying some really dumb things because I was trying to be spontaneous and not research and plan everything. I recently bought a rather pricy item that turned out to be pure decor and didn’t have the functionality I thought it would have. It wasn’t worth what I paid, and a lost a decent chunk of money on my mistake. This is why I’m a spreadsheet person.

Ah well, at least it wasn’t real money. What’s the dumbest thing you’ve ever bought in an MMO?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
