After more than a decade in this ridiculous field I sometimes miss being able to just take expansions and major patches entirely at my own speed. It can be a little exhausting to, say, take an entire weekend of basically no sleep to play through the latest Final Fantasy XIV expansion start to finish so that I can opine about it intelligently. (Well, as intelligently as I opine about anything.) People advising others to wait for a week or two for launch crowds to die down from an expansion are being reasonable, but it’s not an option for everyone.
Of course, I imagine the majority of people commenting on this do not have to associate their completion of an expansion pack with the demands of their work. Heck, even those who do likely have different relationships with the content than I do. So how do you like to take on major MMO expansions? Do you feel a need to rush to the end as quickly as you are reasonably able to do so? Hang back and take your time to explore everything that’s on offer? Or deliberately wait for launch weirdness to even out before taking part?
