Isn’t nostalgia great? Remember just two hours ago, when it was 8:00 a.m. EDT? Of course you do. How could you forget our Daily Grind topic talking about how we’re going to have flashback weekends from now on? It’s been a wild two hours since then, and we’re sure you’d love to think back to the prior two hours and really imagine all the things you’ve done since then.
Remember how you woke up and read our front page? Remember having a cup of coffee? Or maybe you didn’t have a cup of coffee. Not everyone likes coffee, but I like coffee. It’s made from beans, you know. They’re roasted. Time was that we would go into a lengthy discussion about that, but it’s the new flashback What Are You Playing. Please, just comment below by remembering what your life was like before you read the first sentence of this article.
Bonus question: What’s your fondest memory from March 2023?
Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): It’s probably gonna be a big Splatfest weekend for me. I’ll put in some effort for Samurott in Pokemon Violet, and minimal effort for my exercise games (I’m slowly recovering from injuries so I can do very light weightlifting now, yay), but mostly I’ll be proving aliens are real by painting the most turf. Splat-logic!
My fondest memory of March 2023 is probably the Pokemon Go Slowpoke Community Day. It was probably the worst community day I’ve done in a while, mechanically speaking, but I got to hang out with a friend I don’t get to see much of and she was pretty passionate about finding some good Pokemon, so it was enjoyable to see her having some fun. Plus, the seafood I had afterward with other POGO friends made a strong impression on my waistline, hah.
Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’m going to be super busy this weekend in real life, so I will be lucky to get in much time – most likely I’ll play some toons in City of Heroes or drag my lazy self into Lord of the Rings Online and actually do the things I keep meaning to do and keep feeling like it’s too much effort and time for the chunks I have available.
Does this have to be an MMO answer? I’m damn proud that we finished renovating our bathroom in March, every single inch of it done ourselves!
Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): I’m in a racing game mood again, which is good because Forza Horizon 5 put out some rally stuff recently that I have access to. In terms of MMOing, my primary goal for the time being is continued Loporrit tribe quests and doing the Weapon trials in Final Fantasy XIV.
Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Some FFXIV stuff and that’ll probably fill me up for the most part, along with some single-player games on the side. I’ve just been enjoying a lot of offline things recently, no particular reason.
March was a really hard month for me for a lot of reasons, many of which I don’t really want to talk about here, but I did get to review a video game I really liked so that sort of ruled. Also some dude from Queens got indicted, that seemed fitting.
Sam Kash (@thesamkash): Shockingly I haven’t found the drive to play Guild Wars 2 SAB. It’s the first time this has ever happened to me, I swear! So I might try to push myself to do it once and see if it clicks and I want to complete the meta or not. After that I’ll get back into some cards.
Bonus: This is an easy one! Definitely going and watching my girls as they stomped the competition in their tae kwon do tournament.
Tyler Edwards (blog): On Saturday I’ll be playing a fun game called Assembling Ikea Furniture. On Sunday, hopefully, I’ll be playing the New World patch, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see the release slip back another few days. I knew announcing a release so far in advance would come back to bite them.
Bonus question: Bold of you to assume I have fond memories.
Alexander Metcalf, patron: I have yet to break out of my relationship with GW2, but I’m not unhappy about it. I’m finding the endgame much more diverse than most other MMOs I’ve played with different levels of PVE challenges, most of which don’t have a very high barrier to entry. I’ve joined a few PVE-oriented guilds that do both training runs and more complex encounters, and I’m not finding myself as burned out or bored as I once expected. And that’s not even mentioning WvW which I hope to get into as soon as I finish a gearing an alt.
Bonus: I am very much not a kid person. I love my nephew and my nieces (four in total, soon to be six…) but I’m the uncle that shows up randomly to stuff every two to four weeks even though we all live within a 10-minute drive of each other. That said, the eight-year-old loves soccer and finally has FIFA for his Switch. Being disabled, I can’t really go outside and play with him like his dad or other uncles, so teaching him a game I’ve spent 25 years playing has been really fun. Two weeks ago the little [FELLOW] finally beat me with legit teams and me actually trying. I was proud of him, and like the Dr. Seuss’ Grinch my cold, black heart grew ever so slightly (but not not too much).
