Right now there’s a race on that’s drawing ever more attention — and it may come down to the wire.
For the past six years, there’s been a community around the Wii U’s Super Mario Maker that dedicated itself to beating every player-created level in the game. As Nintendo disabled the ability to upload new levels in March 2021, the number of levels became fixed, and “Team 0%” *as the group is called) had a goal to meet.
Now that goal is almost achieved at 99.9% completed, although there’s precious little time left. There’s one and only one level (called “Trimming the Herbs”) that’s frustrated every attempt so far, and it must be conquered by April 8th before Nintendo shuts down the servers entirely.
IGN has an interview with the key members of Team 0% on the cusp of their victory (or… defeat?) as the wider gaming community watches to see if this near-impossible task can be done.
