Reset the timer, everyone: The forums of War Thunder have once again seen another set of classified military documents used as a cudgel to presumably win a forum argument or as a bullet point for a discussion about in-game vehicles. Either way, it’s happened again.
This time around, players of the military vehicle battler posted classified user manuals for the T-90M, T-80BVM, and T-90S Russian main battle tanks, all three of which are still in current service in the country’s military. Yet again the forum moderators have scrubbed threads clean of the posted manual images, though those images reportedly still circulate online regardless.
This is the most recent in another spate of military documents finding their way on to the game’s forums: Documents related to the British Challenger MBT were posted earlier but were confirmed to be declassified and available in Britain’s National Archive, while sensitive documents related to the American F-15 Eagle fighter jet that first were leaked on social media also made their way to War Thunder’s forums.
We also point out that despite the classified nature of many of these documents, an analysis from a Marine vet and journalist concluded that such leaks are not of major benefit to enemy nations. Still, it’s a continuation of a long-standing problem among the game’s community.
The devs of War Thunder appear to be taking this latest military doc leak with generally good humor, though the exhaustion of the CM team is palpable in a follow-up tweet. “To be clear, we do NOT want classified documents, we can’t use them, we don’t want to use them,” Gaijin’s post reads. “At this point, it feel[s] like trying to explain what are ‘rules’ to a cat.”
In other (and less military sensitive) War Thunder news, a recent patch has applied several fixes and improvements to the crew interface, target tracking, TWS mode, and anti-air radar, along with some quality-of-life updates that improve spawning in, improve deploying an available vehicle, and speed up the killcam.
